Andrea Tacchi Coclea Tuchea

Andrea Tacchi is widely recognized as one of the world’s finest luthiers of all time, renowned for his meticulous craftsmanship and innovative approach to classical guitar making. Born in Florence, Italy, Tacchi has dedicated his career to mastering traditional Spanish and Italian guitar-making techniques while constantly seeking new ways to enhance sound and playability. His instruments are celebrated for their exceptional responsiveness, balance, projection, and artistic beauty, making them highly sought after by professional musicians and collectors alike.

One of Tacchi’s most famous creations is the Coclea Thucea, his signature guitar model. Inspired by both scientific principles and artistic vision, the Coclea Thucea features a unique internal structure based on the logarithmic spiral of the cochlea in the human ear. This innovative design enhances the guitar’s acoustics, producing a rich and resonant sound with remarkable clarity and sustain.

The name “Thucea” refers to the use of cedar (thuja plicata) and spruce (picea excelsa) wood for the soundboard. Together they become ‘Thucea’, which contributes to the instrument’s piano-like dense and solid tone, exceptional power, projection, and responsiveness with an expressive tonal character. The Coclea Thucea represents the pinnacle of Tacchi’s dedication to blending tradition with invention, setting a new benchmark in the world of classical guitar making.

This particular guitar was meticulously handcrafted by Andrea Tacchi especially for Ivan Guitar Studio in 2017. Using his finest private stock spruce and cedar that have been air-dried for decades, Tacchi sought to create an instrument with extraordinary power, responsiveness, and projection, surpassing the limits of traditional guitars.

In terms of decoration, the rosette and details of this guitar were designed specifically for IGS. Dominated by hues of yellow, red, gold, and black, the contrasting colors evoke an elegant and luxurious character, making this instrument truly one of a kind in the world.
